Bilateral Switches and Selectors

A CMOS bilateral switch or transmission gate can be regarded as a near-perfect single-pole single-throw (SPST) electronic switch that can pass analogue or digital signals in either direction and can be turned on (closed) or off (opened) via a logic-1 or logic-0 signal applied to a high-impedance control terminal. Such switches have a near-infinite OFF impedance, and an ON impedance of a few tens or hundreds of ohms.

Practical CMOS bilateral switches have useful operating frequencies ranging up to a maximum of 120MHz, and have many practical uses.
