Glossary
Adobe RGB (1998) A common color space in digital imaging. It contains more colors than the sRGB color space, but less than the ProPhoto RGB color space. If possible, digital captures for HDR imaging should be made in the Adobe RGB (1998) color space.
algorithm A set of mathematical instructions used to calculate a final result. HDR Efex Pro uses algorithms to produce and adjust the HDR image.
anchor point A point on the curve of the Curves diagram in HDR Efex Pro where an adjustment is made to the shape of the curve.
aperture The opening through which light travels in a camera lens. The lens aperture is determined by the size of the diaphragm inside the lens. In bracketing for HDR imaging, the aperture remains fixed and the shutter speed varies.
artifact An undesirable alteration of image data caused by some factor in the digital process.
autobracketing The ability of a camera to automatically capture an image sequence with different exposure values.
banding The appearance of bands of tone rather than a smooth tone in areas of an image where the tonal value is changing.
bit A contraction of binary digit. The smallest unit of information used by a computer.
bit depth The number of bits per pixel used to store information in an image. An image with 1 bit per pixel would be black and white with no gray tones. An 8-bit-per-pixel image would be capable of containing 256 colors or gray tones per pixel for each color channel. A 16-bit-per-pixel image could contain 65,536 colors ...
