A number of advanced topics, such as tone mapping and working with off-camera flashes, are not covered in the D600 manual but are of interest to a lot of photographers using the D600. I have included these topics here to give you basic insight into some advanced photography techniques that you can easily accomplish with the D600 so that you can begin to take your photography to the next level.

U1/U2 User Settings
Although the manual briefly touches on the user settings, all you really get out of it is that you can set the D600 to certain parameters and recall them simply by setting the dial. While this information is certainly important, it lacks quite a bit of detail. The user settings are located on the Mode dial along with the rest of the exposure settings. You can rotate the Mode dial to U1 or U2 to access them in an instant.
To clarify exactly what these user settings are, I liken them to the camera’s built-in scene modes, but with one huge difference — the user settings are scene modes that you program into the camera. Now, you can have a landscape, portrait, or close-up scene mode with exactly the settings you want, not just the preprogrammed, fully automatic settings that the scene modes provide, leaving you with almost no options.
