Automated analysis of defects in non-crimp fabrics for composites

Abstract:
In order to judge the textile quality of non-crimp fabric (NCF), a discontinuous laboratory testing method is developed, which is based on a digital image processing system. A flatbed scanner with an additional transmitted light device is used for the digital image acquisition of flat fabric reinforcement. In principle, the pixels of a digital image are similar to a map of numbers, which in this case range from 0 (i.e. black pixel) to 255 (i.e. white pixel).
