Abstract:
This chapter reviews the specific requirements, successful applications and future trends of non-crimp fabric (NCF) composites in the aeronautic sector. Starting from a state-of-the-art overview of composite primary structures, key issues explaining the low usage of NCF today are reflected on, with a focus on the generally inferior damage tolerance performance of resin-infusion-based composites when compared with tough prepreg (pre-impregnated) systems.
