Non-crimp fabric: preforming analysis for helicopter applications

Abstract:
This chapter deals with the preform manufacturing stage of non-crimp fabric (NCF) reinforced composite. An introduction is given to the concept of tailored reinforcement (TR), together with an overview of the forming techniques for NCF reinforcement with respect to quality. The main deformation modes of dry NCFs are presented. Finally, a description of the main defects occurring during preforming is given.
