Insuring your future
Protecting your nonprofit organization encompasses tasks that can range from purchasing sandbags to filing government forms. These activities should be driven by an ongoing, thoughtful assessment of your organization’s risks.
Some risks that nonprofits face vary according to where they’re based and what they do. Is your office on the banks of a river or in tornado country? Do you work with preschool-age children or with injured raptors? Other items are universal: protecting the safety of staff and clients, protecting the organization’s assets, protecting its tax-exempt status, and protecting its reputation. Although no nonprofit manager can anticipate every problem that arises, it’s wise to put systems and precautions in place.
