After decades of service in the field, Peter Earnest returned to the United States to continue to serve at CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia. One of his assignments was covering the Senate staff for the CIA on Capitol Hill, and he became friendly with Mike Epstein, a staffer on the Senate Oversight Committee.
