Molecular Basis of Inheritance
Living systems contain two distinct kinds of nucleic acids: deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and ribonucleic acid (RNA). DNA primarily serves as the genetic material in the majority of organisms. While RNA can also act as genetic material in certain viruses, its primary role is typically that of a messenger. Additionally, RNA takes on various other functions, including acting as an adapter, providing structural support, and sometimes functioning as a catalytic molecule.
