Conservation:
Objects retain some of their prop-
erties even while their appearance changes.
Lev Vygotsky claimed that we are born with four ele-
mentary mental functions—attention, sensations, per-
ception and memory.
He has given the concept of ‘zone
of proximal development’ (ZPD), where learning occurs
with the help of more knowledgeable individuals or peers.
Scaffolding
is a teaching method that is based on the con-
cept of the ZPD. It involves providing temporary support
and guidance to learners as they work on tasks that are
slightly beyond their current level of competence.
