Buddhism started in India almost 2,600 years ago with
the objective of transforming a person. This religion is
popular in South and Southeast Asia.
This religion is based on the teachings of Siddhartha
Gautam, born circa 563 BCE. He was born into the royal
family of the Sakya clan, who ruled from Kapilvastu, in
Lumbini near the Indo-Nepal Border.
Gautama, at the age of 29, left home and embraced a life-
style of asceticism, or extreme self-discipline. He attained
