Sanskrit College, Calcutta (1824):
This college was
set up under the patronage of Lord Amherst. Ishwar
Chander Vidyasagar joined this college in 1841. He
advocated to include English and Bengali as mediums
of instruction alongside Sanskrit. He campaigned
against Sati Pratice that officially ended in 1856.
Earlier Raja Ram Mohan Roy also campaigned against
Sati Practice. Lord William Bentick officially ended
that Sati practice in Bengal in 1829.
