Classical Languages
Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and
Odia are the six classical languages in India. Tamil
was the first language to be assigned the status of
classical language in 2004. Odia was the last one to
be assigned the status in February 2014, but it is the
first language from the Indo-Aryan linguistic group
to be assigned the status.
