MEASURES OF CENTRAL TENDENCY, DISPERSION, CORRELATION AND REGRESSION
The word statistics is derived from the Latin word ‘status’ or Italian ‘statista’ which means statesman. The term was used by Professor Gottfried Achenwall in the 18th century. During the early period, the word ‘statista’ was used to keep the records of census or data related to the wealth of a state. Gradually, its meaning and usage extended and there onwards its nature also changed.
The word statistics is used to convey different meanings in a singular and plural sense.
