MOTIVATION – CONCEPT AND THEORIES
The word ‘motivation’ is coined from the Latin word ‘movere” which means to move. Motivation is largely considered to be a psychological, and thus, a qualitative concept. It inspires a person to intensify his continuous efforts for the achievement of certain objectives in an enthusiastic manner.
The Encyclopaedia of Management has defined motivation as the degree of readiness of an organism to pursue some designated goal, and implies the determination of nature and locus of the forces including the degree of readiness.
