INTRODUCTION
After independence, several commissions and committees were constituted to analyze the problems related to Indian Education and various suggestions were recommended for the way forward. It was the first attempt to re-orient the system of education to the needs and aspirations of the citizens and it was felt that the universities and other higher education institutions could play a significant role in the development process.
