1 Early Modern India: Eighteenth Century

INTRODUCTION

Within the first decade of the Eighteenth century, the Indian subcontinent went through a series of changes. With the death of Aurangzeb in 1707, the Mughal Empire started to rapidly decline and disintegrate. We have previously discussed the reasons for the decline of the Mughal Empire, and an important reason why the decline was accelerated were the weak successors of Aurangzeb.
