Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar

INTRODUCTION

Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar was born on 14 April 1891 in a low-caste Mahar family. He himself experienced caste-based discrimination during his childhood which made him the Messiah of Dalit rights and politics in India. He was popularly known as Babasaheb. He was a jurist, economist, politician, and social reformer who chaired the Drafting Committee of the Constituent Assembly and was also India’s First Minister for Law and Justice. He was a fierce critique of the Hindu Social order and challenged it in his various works. He played a significant role in the upliftment of the Dalit community and gathered them in the fight for Dalit rights.
