The tripod dolly (see figure 13-1) is a smooth rolling platform where a tripod can be mounted and perform dolly shots. This type of dolly is extremely useful because it’s lightweight, portable, and easy to use. Moreover, with it you can obtain professional-looking dolly tracking shots that are the hallmark of a polished film.

With the tripod dolly, only the tripod and the camera move along the track – unlike a professional dolly where the camera operator rides on the dolly with the camera.
