Prop fabrication is one of the most exciting and interesting jobs in the art department. When you work on a low-budget film, you’ll be called upon to make an unbelievable number of props. Prop houses are a great place to rent the objects you need, but you may not have one near you or your budget may not allow it. Further, many props are still difficult or very expensive to obtain such as an assault rifle, an Academy Award (until you win one), or a uranium transport container. Some props simply do not exist outside of the imagination of the screenwriter/filmmaker.
