12 by, 10 by, 8 by, 20 by Specifies the size of diffusion material to fit a frame such as 12′ × 12′, 10′ × 10′, 8′ × 8′, or 20′ × 20′.

16:9 A popular screen ratio (ratio 1.78), 16 × 9 is the most popular ratio for HD TV.

180° line An imaginary line that intersects the actors. Once shooting begins, crossing this line makes editing a problem because actors won’t look like they’re looking at each other.

3:2 pulldown Process of conversion from 24 to 30 fps. Typically used to convert 16 or 35 mm film to television or MiniDV.

35 mm Standard motion picture film type. Generally a 35 mm negative is cropped so that the displayed frame has a ratio of 1.85.

5:1 Surround sound audio standard that is most commonly used on DVD.
