Cisco NX-OS was designed to be a data center-class operating system. A component of such an operating system includes support for a rich set of IP multicast features, including key capabilities such as Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP), Protocol Independent Multicast (PIM) sparse mode, Source Specific Multicast (SSM), Multicast Source Discovery Protocol (MSDP), and Multiprotocol Border Gateway Protocol (MBGP).
