Pooling CPUs
The last topic I’ll review with a better understanding of zones in mind is CPU configuration. Over the years, operating systems have developed more sophisticated and flexible tools that allow administrators to configure certain processes to run on certain CPUs. Often the objective was to improve overall system utilization, but nowadays there may be additional goals as well, such as improving the system’s resilience to hardware failures and configuring a large complement of physical resources into a collection of smaller logical computing resources.
