7.2. Exporting Data from an Excel Spreadsheet into a Custom List

In the last section, you saw that when you export a SharePoint list to Excel, you can manually update the Excel spreadsheet with changes made in SharePoint, but you cannot update SharePoint with changes made to the Excel spreadsheet. Let's now take a look at what you can do when you start from Excel 2007.

For the example shown here, I've created an Excel table that lists the top 30+ brightest stars in the evening skies. The table includes the name of the star, the name of the constellation in which the star can be found, and the star's apparent magnitude.
