Chances are, if you’re new to OKRs, a few tips on how to write them well will come in handy. You may struggle with aligning your OKRs to the company’s strategy, wrestle with how to make them as specific as possible, or wonder who to involve in the effort. This chapter provides you with ten pointers to improve the OKRs you and your teams write.
Know the Organization’s Strategy
At the end of the day, you’re implementing OKRs to help execute your strategy. Therefore, it’s important that all OKRs created, from top to bottom throughout the organization, align with the strategy, and for that to happen, everyone must first know and understand it. When you have a deep working knowledge of the strategy, you have a much greater likelihood of developing OKRs that are focused, relevant, and measurable.
