Though my adult career has been focused and intentional, when I was younger, like most children I dreamed of many different careers (including a fashion designer, a social worker, a writer, and even a rabbi). Then at age 18, I found fundraising.
When I was a freshman in college, I came across a flyer advertising $10 per hour to stuff envelopes for the school’s development office. I didn’t know what development was, but as a kid I stuffed envelopes in my dad’s office and he paid me $0.05 an envelope, so this was a serious upgrade.
