Abstract
Social media sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, have grown into enormous databases of important information that provide insights into the attitudes, views, and trends of their users. Due to their enormous popularity, social media platforms are excellent data sources for academics. Two of the most well-known sites, Facebook and Twitter, provide enormous archives of user-generated information. The purpose of this work is to examine the procedures for extracting data from these platforms, the difficulties encountered, and the moral considerations that should be made by researchers. This study explores the techniques for obtaining data through data scraping from Facebook and Twitter, the difficulties encountered by academics, and the moral issues that need to be resolved. The chapter covers a variety of data scraping methods, possible uses for data that has been scraped, legal ramifications, and ethical data scraping best practices. Furthermore, case studies offer actual instances of productive data-scraping initiatives on various sites.
