In the short period of time computer viruses have existed, the antivirus industry has produced an amazing array of antivirus tools. Some are now out of date, replaced by new, more effective techniques. Certainly, new strategies will develop. It's an endless arms race. The appearance of a new virus finding a new vulnerability in the operating system's security will cause a protective response from the companies in the business of antiviral software. The tools will always keep changing. Some are more effective than others, and often an antivirus program will use a combination of techniques.
