The Streaming Media Process

Installing the various components of a streaming media system is only half of the equation. “Streaming media” also refers to the files that are streamed. These files have to be created.

Streaming media files can be created from scratch or from preexisting content, such as a CD or videotape. They can be broadcast live or encoded for later broadcast or on-demand streaming. No matter what sort of streaming media you create, the process breaks down into four basic steps: creation, encoding, authoring, and serving.
