Op amps have become a broader product line, with some interesting variations that find design niches. Op amps can be speeded up by reducing the internal dominant pole, but at the cost of stability at unity gain. Instrumentation amplifiers are used when both inputs need to be high impedance. Difference amplifiers are used when the input voltage range is high and are specially designed to be stable at gains less than one. Buffer amplifiers are used to allow more output power than is usually found in an op amp.
