Active Filters
A filter is a frequency-selective electric circuit that passes electrical signals of a specified frequency and attenuates the other frequencies. Filters are classified into active and passive filters. Passive filters are realized with inductors, capacitors and resistors. Active filters are realized with op-amp in addition to capacitors and resistors. The problem with the passive filter is the size of the inductors to be used for low-frequency applications. Active filter does not require an inductor at all. For frequencies more than 1 MHz, where the op-amps performances are limited beyond this 1 MHz, passive filters are recommended.
