A.1 OE Ontologies

Ontologies are a form of modeling that can be used to organize and understand a discipline. Ontologies instruct how individual aspects of a discipline integrate with one another and compose the whole. An ontology helps individuals understand a defined concept, individual components, and how they relate.383

A crucial first step in ontology development is to define the discipline and the specific areas that make up the greater system.
