7.5. GMPLS Extensions to RSVP-TE

At a first glance, the GMPLS extensions to RSVP-TE consist of a few new objects, a new message, and associated procedures. If we look deeper, it becomes apparent that GMPLS brings significant changes to the usage of RSVP-TE. These are:

  • Enforcement of the separation between the data plane and the control plane. In particular, the RSVP model where the control messaging is tied to specific data plane interfaces (see section 7.4.1.3) is eliminated.
