After a rather concise review of the management aspects in transport networks, we now examine the relationship between the control and the management planes in these networks. In this regard, it should be noted that the control plane is very focused on a select set of tasks. It is thus instructive to first look at the management plane functional areas and see where the control plane intersects them. Subsequently, we can examine how the control plane functionality complements those of the management plane.
In this section, we examine how the control plane affects the management of fault, configuration, accounting, performance monitoring, and security.
