Subtending Ring Configuration
The ONS 15454 supports up to 32 SONET DCCs with the TCC2 card in Release 4.x. The TCC2 hardware is ready to support up to 84 DCC terminations. Each ring requires two DCCs and a single ONS 15454 node can terminate and groom any one of the following ring combinations:
16 UPSRs
15 UPSRs + 1 BLSR (2-fiber or 4-fiber)
14 UPSRs + 2 BLSRs (one 4-fiber maximum)
Subtending rings offers the network designer versatility in layout of the fiber infrastructure. Sub-tending rings also reduces the number of nodes and cards required in a design and helps reduce external shelf-to-shelf cabling. Figure 9-31 shows an ONS 15454 with multiple subtending rings.
