CHAPTER 1Storage Stack Overview
This chapter reviews the various components that make up the input/output (I/O) stack. The objective of this chapter is to provide an overview of the stack's key components and to lay the foundation for the database administrator (DBA) or Automatic Storage Management (ASM) administrator to understand the storage nomenclature. Keep in mind that several of these components—such as Fibre Channel (FC) and small computer system interface (SCSI)—cannot be easily compartmentalized into a specific category because they actually belong in several areas.
