PERT chart

The PERT chart is used to recognize the critical path and to find a way to shorten it. 

The PERT method is a network-planning method that determines the duration (and the costs) of the project. The character of the PERT technique is probabilistic, so it is used in cases where we cannot safely say how much the duration or the cost of some project activities will be.

The PERT method was developed in 1958 at the request of the US Navy. Its research involved the collaboration of a large number of military and civilian organizations in the planning of the space program, the Polaris missile program.
