Automatic Storage Management for Cluster Management
As you learned in Chapter 4, Oracle 10g now ships its own volume manager with the introduction of Automatic Storage Management, or ASM. ASM was designed to ease the tasks associated with database administration by automatically distributing and rebalancing files across all available raw devices within the ASM disk group. ASM offers a unique alternative for supporting the physical requirements of RAC by combining Oracle-managed files and volume-management technology, all within a shared cluster environment.
