CHAPTER 6Installing Oracle 10g on Linux
In some respects, installing Oracle 10g on Linux can be much easier than installing Oracle9i. In other respects, it can be more challenging. The degree of difficulty depends on the method of installation. Some of the new challenges revolve around the use of ASM—Oracle’s Automatic Storage Management. Although ASM simplifies storage management, it involves some work to install and configure. Installing the Oracle database on Linux can be quite straightforward if installed on a standard filesystem.
The installation process can be broken up into preinstall, install, and postinstall/configuration steps.
