Get Started with Recovery Manager
We have seen different ways to provide backup and recovery in this section as a matter of background and completeness. We will now look into the method that Oracle recommends you should be using or at least migrating to. This is Recovery Manager (RMAN). The RMAN utility has been available since Oracle8i and has been improving steadily with each new release. RMAN is an Oracle tool that manages all backup and recovery activities, including backup, copy, restore and recovery of datafiles, control files, and archived redo logs.
