The g in Oracle Database 10g stands for “grid.” Grid computing supports the ability to treat the computing infrastructure as a shared service whose composition is managed outside the view of the client applications. In this sense, the computing service can be analogous to an electrical utility in which the systems that provide the service are not directly seen by the end users. The source of the electrical power and the systems used to manage it are unseen by the user.
