If you could choose just two Oracle utilities to monitor and find performance problems of your system, those two utilities would be Enterprise Manager (Chapter 5) and the new AWR (Automatic Workload Repository) Report and/or STATSPACK (both covered in this chapter). In Oracle 10gR2, the new AWR Report has everything that is in STATSPACK and a whole lot more! STATSPACK also remains in 10g and has a few great improvements. The STATSPACK utility has been available since Oracle 8.1.6 to monitor the performance of your database.
