From a tuning perspective, every system has a performance bottleneck that may move from component to component over a time period of days or even weeks The goal of performance design is to make sure that the physical limitations of the applications and the associated hardware—I/O throughput rates, memory sizes, query performance, and so on—do not impact the business performance.
