Instance Recovery in Oracle RAC
Instance recovery in Oracle RAC is not radically different from the way it is performed on a single instance. Some additional steps are required because redo entries for a data block can now exist in any redo threads. Hence, global (clusterwide) coordination and synchronization is required to ensure that the consistency and reliability of data blocks are maintained, just like the Oracle recovery mechanism would in the case of a single-instance recovery.
At this juncture, it is important that you understand the subtle differences in the terms instance recovery and crash recovery. Although they generally mean the same thing in terms of operations, some minor contextual differences exist.
