Dynamic Reconfiguration and Affinity Remastering
Remastering is the term used to describe the operation whereby the node attempting the recovery tries to own or master the resource(s) once mastered by another instance prior to a failure. Hence, the term remaster is used for the operation performed during instance recovery or when a node joins or leaves a cluster.
When one instance departs the cluster, the GRD component of that instance needs to be redistributed to the surviving nodes. Similarly, when a new instance enters the cluster, the GRD portions of the existing instances need to be redistributed to create the GRD portion of the new instance.
