RMAN and Data Guard

Oracle Standby Database has been a database high-availability option with the Oracle Database since Oracle 7 Release 7.3. The objective of a standby database is to support the capability of maintaining a duplicate (or standby) database of a primary (or production) database for recovering from disasters at the production site. When the primary database fails (for example, because of a natural disaster), the standby database can be opened, or activated, and all end users can be switched to the standby database machine and continue to access the database while the previous primary database is being recovered.
