2. Real Application Clusters (RAC) in Exadata

It is common knowledge that, coupled with next-generation Sun hardware, Exadata is a conglomerate of existing Oracle technologies on the software side of things. Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC), the parallelized cluster version of the Oracle Database family, plays an integral role in the software picture on Exadata. RAC and Grid Infrastructure (GI: Oracle Clusterware and Automatic Storage Management, or ASM) come preinstalled and preconfigured from the factory with all Exadata machines.
