4. Flash Cache, Smart Scans, and Cell Offloading
One of the key design goals for the Oracle Exadata Database Machine has always been to build a platform that can deliver extreme performance, reliability, and availability for Oracle Databases across all workloads (OLTP/batch/DSS/DW).
The combination of the Flash Cache on the Storage Cell and the software features embedded into the Storage Cell (Smart Flash Cache) is the key for the Oracle Exadata Database Machine to deliver on this design principle and goal. In this chapter we look at the use and implementation of Flash Cache on Exadata Storage Cells which enables Exadata to deliver extreme performance across all database workloads with reliability.
