SOA Suite composites allow applications to integrate with a wide variety of system endpoints. However, in many cases, applications must interact not only with other systems but also directly with end users. The Human Task component type provides one way of implementing such a communication path, but its capabilities are mainly designed for task-flow-based interactions and require users to use a specific client (the task list UI) to interact with the application. In many cases, however, what is required is the ability to interact with users through richer messaging mechanisms such as e-mail, SMS messages, voice mail, or instant messaging.
