Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) provides a mechanism for two systems connecting over the network to authenticate against each other and establish a secure channel for communication by encrypting the data exchanged between the two parties. It is the most widely used transport-level data-communication protocol providing support for authentication, confidentiality, message integrity, and secure cryptographic key exchange between client and server.
